The first distro I ever used for Linux was CrunchBang. Me being a noob with Linux enjoyed learning and using it. It was easy to use and I was able to learn with it very easily. It uses very little RAM and HDD space. Good use with older equipment, I believe it uses portions of Ubuntu in its code so anything that works with Ubuntu will probably work with CB.
