Since the API isn't finished yet it only allows you to access read-only posts so you won't be able to access most of your circles information. In the future this is said to change, so no need to panic.
My first thoughts of this was if it would be better then other APIs like the on Facebook has. I haven't yet tried Google+'s API yet but it looks to be good. I'm currently going to keep an eye on it and see how it progresses.
